When you added resistance the train would slow down and when you deleted resistance the train would speed up! You can do that with DC but not with AC. You had a handle on the rectifier that would accomplish this transition!

It is referred to as “EVSE” or Electric Vehicle Service Equipment! It only supplies 120volt or 240volt AC amperage to a mobile connector that in turn plugs into a port that is built into your vehicle! The inverter that changes the AC amperage to DC is built into your vehicle along with the DC charger that charges your vehicle’s DC battery! Stop calling the “EVSE” and mobile connector a charger! That only supplies AC amperage and voltage not DC amperage! I hope you understand the difference! Many people still call it a charger! It is not!!!
