GM has also invested in a company chasing the solid-state battery dream and it is “hinted” this will be the chemistry used in the Ultium II battery. What GM and Ford are proposing is the V2G interaction of BEV with grid charging for the BEV to using the stored energy in the BEV for grid services that would decrease the monthly electric bill. TESLA shied away from this concept early on, it will be interesting to see how much using the BEV in electricity arbitrage and resilience effects the life of the battery pack. Right now, 8 years seems to be the normal, but V2G could degrade the battery pack down to a 5- or 6-year lifetime, then a new battery pack would cost (?) to replace.
